Why is the Vaginal Microbiome so important for fertility?

A healthy vaginal microbiome is essential whether trying to conceive naturally or through IVF/ICSI. Unlike the gut microbiome the vaginal microbiome should be lactobacillus dominant to keep the pH of your vagina weakly acidic in order to keep pathogens at bay.

Studies have shown that a disruption in this beneficial bacteria may impact your chances of conception. 50% of women are asymptomatic to bacterial and yeast infections, but their presence may be affecting your uterus and/or fallopian tubes, thereby causing problems getting pregnant.

A simple home test using a vaginal swab can test over 20 biomarkers in your vaginal microbiome - and knowledge is power! If anything shows up that shouldn't be there, there are ways to eradicate them, increase the beneficial lactobacillus and correct your pH to keep your vaginal microbiome in optimum health ready for conception.
